Stock Market Update: Sensex and Nifty Show Resilience Amid Volatility
Indian stock markets recover from losses as indices close higher despite rising oil prices and global uncertainties.

The Indian stock market witnessed a notable recovery on Thursday, with both the Sensex and Nifty indices reversing earlier losses to finish positively. After a streak of three consecutive days in decline, the benchmarks ended the day with significant upward momentum, largely attributed to key stocks regaining ground. Power Grid and Axis Bank emerged as notable contributors, each experiencing gains of nearly two per cent. Further reinforcing the positive performance were important players such as UltraTech Cement and NTPC, which also recorded increases.

Crude oil prices have been a matter of concern in the global market. Recently, Brent crude traded at approximately $107.70 per barrel while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was around $102.50. Both oil benchmarks have seen a steep increase, rising more than six per cent just the previous day, marking one of their highest weekly gains since July.

The upswing in oil prices is raising alarms regarding potential supply disruptions, particularly due to escalating tensions surrounding key maritime routes in the Middle East. Recent actions by Iran-aligned groups, including the seizure of Yemen’s port of Mocha, further illuminate the risks posed to oil transportation through critical passages like the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the external pressures from crude price volatility and weaker global cues, Indian markets displayed resilience during the trading session, reflecting optimism among investors. The Nifty index formed a hammer pattern, signalling renewed buying interest as the market closed. Many analysts anticipate that the overall sentiment may continue to be cautious as factors like rising oil prices, global economic developments, and yields come into play.

Looking ahead, market watchers are particularly focused on how oil prices will influence market sentiment, as well as broader global economic indicators. With volatility in play, investors remain vigilant about potential market movements in the coming days. Analysts suggest maintaining a clear understanding of the dynamics at play as international developments may significantly impact local sentiments.
