Adani Airports Secures $1 Billion Equity Investment from Global Firms
Adani Airport Holdings Limited announces $1 billion equity raise from international investors, aiming to enhance India's airport infrastructure.

In a significant move for India's aviation sector, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), has finalised agreements to raise ₹9,825 crore (approximately $1 billion) in primary equity capital. This investment comes from a consortium of prominent investors including Alpha Wave Global, Premji Invest, Temasek, and BlackRock managed funds.

The deal values AAHL at a pre-money equity valuation of around $18 billion, making it one of the largest investments in India’s airport infrastructure from financial institutions. The participation of this consortium highlights substantial institutional confidence in AAHL's operational capabilities and growth potential in the aviation market.

As India’s aviation industry experiences a robust phase of passenger growth, coinciding with significant infrastructure investment and capacity expansion, this capital influx will play a crucial role. The funds will support strategic initiatives aimed at upgrading and expanding airport infrastructure, as well as developing integrated Adani Airport City ecosystems, which plans to include 22 million square feet of mixed-use development in its initial phase.

Additionally, these investments are expected to enhance passenger services and propel other non-aeronautical ventures, including ground handling operations, thereby increasing the company’s capacity to serve up to 200 million passengers annually. This investment follows AEL's earlier achievement of raising ₹15,000 crore through a qualified institutional placement, marking India’s largest QIP in the non-financial corporate sector.

Mr. Jeet Adani, Non-Executive Director of AAHL, remarked, “This partnership marks an important milestone in building out the Adani Airports platform, and we are privileged to have such marquee, long-term investors alongside us.” He emphasised the pivotal role of India's aviation sector in bolstering the nation's GDP through enhanced trade, tourism, and employment opportunities.

Mr. Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, reiterated the company's ambitions to expand into one of the world's most comprehensive airport platforms, driven by immense growth prospects within India and increasing consumer spending. He acknowledged the support from their partners, expressing optimism about their collaborative future in revolutionising India's airport landscape.

The advisory team for this transaction includes notable firms such as Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB & Partners, and Ernst & Young LLP. The deal is currently pending customary conditions and regulatory approvals.

AAHL stands as one of India’s largest private airport operators, managing eight airports and effectively handling over 23% of the country's total passenger traffic. The company aims to combine advanced technology and sustainability practices to enhance overall passenger experience and operational efficiency within its integrated airports framework.

Adani Enterprises Limited, the parent company, has established a diverse portfolio including sectors ranging from ports and power to sustainable energy, strategically aligned with India’s infrastructural growth requirements.
